In honor of our seven founders, we get to know one Alpha Chi Omega through seven questions.
Hannah Petrie (Beta Delta, College of William & Mary)
The new Guess Who? Hometown Helpers edition – highlighting essential workers who are helping our communities through the pandemic – all started as an idea from Hannah Petrie. Her passion for building communities and connections is something she can live out every day at Hasbro and as an Alpha Chi Omega.
Q: What is your job and what does a typical day look like?
I am an HR specialist in Diversity & Inclusion at Hasbro, Inc. My day-to-day includes data analytics, project management and employee surveys. Our team works to create an environment where our employees can reach their full potential, because we know that the more inclusive we are as a company, the stronger our business will be.
Q: How did you come up with the idea for the new edition of Guess Who?
The idea started with a goal to recognize the essential workers and local heroes working hard to ensure the safety and well-being of our communities during this unprecedented time. They are the ones who worked tirelessly to keep our shelves stocked, deliver our packages and care for our sick loved ones. The idea evolved into Guess Who? Hometown Helpers – and I couldn’t be more excited to see this idea come to life.
Q: Can you walk us through the process of pitching the idea to seeing the game released?
Hasbro periodically hosts internal innovation challenges to encourage creative ideas from across the company. I was excited for the opportunity to work on something outside of my traditional day to day work and be more creative. I submitted the idea and was advanced to the final round. This included a virtual pitch via video call to all employees at the company! It was nerve-wracking, but I was excited to share the idea. After pitching the idea, our Games Team reached out to me letting me know of their plans and inviting me to several development meetings. It was very cool to see the idea evolve into what it is today! There are so many checks and balances involved in the process – I was very impressed.
Q: What is it like for you seeing the game in production and knowing the impact it makes in supporting the campaign? ($10 from the sale of each game through March 31 supports the No Kid Hungry campaign to help end childhood hunger.)
It is still surreal to see the game sitting on my shelf in my apartment. It is even more surreal to know the impact it is making in our communities. Food insecurity is a cause I am particularly passionate about, and it was one of the reasons I got involved in when the pandemic started. I was awestruck when I learned the game would support No Kid Hungry.
Q: How has Alpha Chi Omega had an impact on your life?
Alpha Chi Omega’s mission – to cultivate impactful communities where women are inspired to connect, lead, grow, and serve – helped me grow into the real, strong woman I am today. It also inspires me to build connections every day, lead others, grow my passions and serve more. This eventually helped me find my career at Hasbro, where I can combine my passions for supporting my community and ensuring all can rise to their potential.
Q: What does being a real, strong woman mean to you?
To me, being a real, strong woman means you believe in yourself, you believe in others, and you believe in what you are passionate about. Believing in yourself gives you the confidence to reach new heights, believing in others builds community and supports those when their own confidence may falter, and believing in what you are passionate about gives you drive and motivation to make change in this world, whatever that looks like for you.
Q: What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
When I was younger, I was featured in photos on several of Hasbro’s packaged toys. You can say my Hasbro story has really come full circle!
