From the Nonprofit Perspective: Zeta Pi’s Impact on A New Leaf

By: Tia Ferrara (Beta Lambda, University of Arizona), Philanthropy Associate for A New Leaf

The Zeta Pi chapter of Alpha Chi Omega at Arizona State University goes above and beyond for their local community! A New Leaf is privileged to be the local nonprofit that the Zeta Pi chapter has partnered with. Together, we advocate on behalf of survivors and actively work to end domestic violence in our community. A New Leaf provides domestic violence shelters, operates the county domestic violence hotline and offers other resources to those in need of help.

The incredible women of Zeta Pi host three major events a year with proceeds benefitting survivors of domestic violence served by A New Leaf. Kickin’ It with Alpha Chi, G.I. Alpha Chi and Alpha Chi Pazookie Night are signature community events in the Greek community at ASU. Through these events, the chapter has raised and donated over $78,000 for the domestic violence shelters and programs offered by A New Leaf, including $10,000 from this year alone! On top of that, the ladies volunteer to help at fundraising events, sell raffle tickets, facilitate the registration table and greet guests. A New Leaf is simply overwhelmed with the remarkable support of the Zeta Pi chapter

The real, strong, women of the Zeta Pi chapter not only host three major philanthropies a year raising donations from community members and students for those in need, but they also spend time connecting with the community at A New Leaf. The women donate their time through direct service, volunteering with the children in A New Leaf’s domestic violence shelters. They hold karaoke parties -laughing and singing with the children – clean the shelter and after school program space, and even give the children in A New Leaf’s shelters a tour of ASU, inspiring them to work hard in school. The ladies of Zeta Pi make their biggest impact, however, by simply being ambassadors for A New Leaf. Alpha Chi Omegas go out into the community and spread awareness of the critical resources offered by A New Leaf, allowing some people to receive help and others to get involved as well.

By “wearing” A New Leaf on their sleeve, these ladies are always looking for new and innovative ways to spread awareness of A New Leaf into the community. Bailey Netsch is a wonderful example of an Alpha Chi member being an ambassador. Bailey graduated from the Zeta Pi chapter in 2018, but that has not stopped her advocacy. She currently works at the Arizona State Capitol and spotlights A New Leaf whenever she can. Bailey has a true passion for increasing awareness about domestic violence in our community through media and acts on it. She is constantly searching for new ways A New Leaf can be involved in her life, whether that is through corporate giving, grant opportunities or various volunteer service projects. Bailey and the women of Alpha Chi Omega are inspiring!

By having the support of all the ladies in the Zeta Pi chapter, A New Leaf has been able to better serve our community, especially survivors of domestic violence. We cannot thank the wonderful women at the Zeta Pi chapter enough for everything they do to help the community through A New Leaf!
