Insiders’ Guide to Baltimore

Liza Hallsten
Jenna Massoni

Our local convention volunteer chairs, Liza Pugliese Hallsten (Alpha Omega, Birmingham-Southern College) and Jenna Massoni (Beta Pi, Washington College), share their favorites in Baltimore. They can’t wait to welcome you to their city for the 61st National Convention!

What are your favorite sites in Baltimore?
Liza: I love visiting the Inner Harbor restaurants and the National Aquarium.
Jenna: My first favorite site is Camden Yards. Although we may not always be winners, I always enjoy going to the Orioles games and taking in the experience. My second favorite site is Fells Point. This part of Baltimore is on the water and has a ton of character.

What will sisters find on the Inner Harbor near our hotel?
Liza: The original Phillips Seafood restaurant, USS Constellation, Vaccaro’s Italian Pastry Shop, Little Italy, Charm City Cakes, Loch Bar – the oysters are amazing! Also, check out the Edgar Allan Poe house.
Jenna: Sisters can visit the old ships, the shopping center and the market. It’s also nice to walk around by the water.

What’s your Baltimore fun fact?
Liza: Baltimore’s World Trade Center at the Inner Harbor is the world’s tallest five-sided building. Take the elevator to the 27th floor for a panoramic view of the city.
Jenna: Snowballs (the dessert) were invented in Baltimore – and we definitely embrace that! Snowballs are a staple that I would recommend out-of-town sisters try.

What do people not know about Baltimore that you want to share?
Liza: The Charm City Circulator and Harbor Connector water taxi are free transportation services that stop in many popular neighborhoods of southern Baltimore.
Jenna: Baltimore is a football town. People love their traditions, tailgates and have a real passion for the sport and the team.

What are you most excited for at convention?
Liza: I am most excited for the educational sessions and guest speakers. I always learn something new about Alpha Chi Omega and about myself.
Jenna: I’m so excited to see some of my Iota Alpha (Alumnae Initiates) chapter members. And I can’t wait to meet some new sisters.
